Jackson P. Burley High School opened in 1951 as an Albemarle County school for Black students. The school consolidated 3 Black high schools in the county: Esmont High School, Jefferson High School, and the Albemarle Training School. The school closed in 1967. The City's interest in the school was purchased by Albemarle County. In 1974 the school reopened as Jackson P. Burley Middle School. In 2020 it was listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
This collection contains historical information and ephemera from Jackson P. Burley High School in Charlottesville, Va. It includes a graduation announcement for Shirley Ann Thompson, June 1956; a Burley vs. Culpeper football program, 9 November [1956]; a photocopy of the Burley Bulletin, June 1967; a CD-Rom "Pictorial History of Jackson P. Burley High School"; a copy of the National Register of Historic Places Registration Form; and a 2018 Monument Wall Dedication Souvenir Booklet.
