Petition to Charlottesville City Council, MS 341, Albemarle Charlottesville Historical Society, Charlottesville, Virginia
Gift of Thomas Nelson Page, 1997
The City of Charlottesville created the housing authority by voter referendum in 1954. The Charlottesville Redevelopment and Housing Authority was to clear so called blighted and slum areas of the city and operate public housing programs. The CRHA was responsible for the demolition of Vinegar Hill and the construction of public housing.
This is a petition to the Charlottesville city council requesting a referendum on the application of the Redevelopment and Housing Authority to approve a low-rent housing project on the Ridge Street-Raymond Road site.
