Trees of Lee Park: a guide to their identification and location, MS 697, Albemarle Charlottesville Historical Society, Charlottesville, Virginia
Gift of Gayle Schulman
Market Street Park (formerly known as Lee Park) is located in downtown Charlottesville, bounded by Jefferson Street, First Street N.E., Market Street, and Second Street N.E. The land was purchased and donated to the City of Charlottesville by Paul G. McIntire in memory of his parents. McIntire's intention was to also include a statue of Robert E. Lee, which was unveiled in 1924. The park is the site of community festivals, events, and protests. The City of Charlottesville renamed the park Emancipation Park (2017-2018)before it was bestowed its current name Market Street Park. The City removed the Lee Statue in 2021.
This is a guide to the trees in Market Street Park (Lee Park). It includes maps of tree locations and color photocopies of tree leaves. 35p.
