Matthews-Wright Lease Agreement, MS 179, Albemarle Charlottesville Historical Society
Gift of Mrs. Lambert Molyneaux, 9 July 1989,
Harriet Matthews (1807-1882) was a widow who lived in Charlottesville. Her husband, Richard Matthews, was a silversmith. William G. Wright (1832-1885) was, according to the 1880 census, the jailer in Charlottesville. In 1876 he rented a home from Matthews.
This is the 1876 rental agreement between Matthews and Wright for the home Wright rented from Matthews. It was located near George B. Young's property. The donor included a note stating that the item was given to her by the daughter of William Wright, who lived at 213 7th Street N.E., in Charlottesville.
