The collection was donated to the former Chemistry Library on campus in 1955. The notebooks were later transferred to the University Libraries and Special Collections and University Archives.
The processing, arrangement, and description of the Robert E. Hussey Notebooks was completed in 2004. Some additional description was completed in 2013.
Dr. Robert E. Hussey was a professor in chemistry at Virginia Polytechnic Institute from 1925 to 1952, becoming Emeritus Professor of Organic Chemistry in 1960.
The Robert E. Hussey Notebooks, 1928-1937, n.d., contain three research report notebooks, which includes chemistry notes with papers and samples interleafed between the pages.
