This collection was donated to Virginia Tech and transferred to Special Collections in July 1973.
The processing, arrangement, and description of the Jesse Heard VAMC Buttons was completed in 1973. Additional description was completed in February 2011.
Jesse Thomas Heard (1860-1954) attended Virginia Agriculture and Mechanical College (now known as Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University) in 1887. He is buried with his wife Ella Paris Heard (1869-1937) in Thornrose Cemetery, Staunton, Virginia.

This collection consists of six uniform buttons belonging to Jesse T. Heard, who attended Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College in 1887. The buttons are gold in color. They have V.A.M.C. engraved on them, along with a sheaf of wheat, rifle, telescope, book, and plow. These buttons were produced by the Waterbury Button Company.
A reference to Jesse Thomas Heard is in the Virginia Tech and Local History Mounted Clippings on Mo1e no. 1, which is about the Literary Societies at the university.
