Richard Whitmore Neale, son of Harold and Dorothy Whitmore Neale, was born in Worcester, Massachusetts, on August 27, 1912. By 1930, the Neales were living in Darien, Connecticut. Neale graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute (now Virginia Tech) with a degree in civil engineering in 1934; he married Rose Hening (1916-2003) in Richmond, Virginia, on October 5, 1937. A Richmond city directory for 1950 lists a Richard "J.," husband of Rose H., as a plant supervisor for C&P Telephone. Richard W. Neale died in Richmond, Virginia on February 27, 1993, and was buried in the city's Forest Lawn Cemetery.
This collection contains two souvenir football programs from the 1932 Virginia Polytechnic Institute Gobblers (now the Virginia Tech Hokies) football season. The programs were printed for away games against the University of Georgia, an October 1 game won by VPI, 7-6; and against the University of Maryland, an October 8 game won by VPI, 23-0.
