The processing, arrangement, and description of the Joseph Allen Gills Papers was completed in 1992. Additional description was completed in May 2009.
Gills attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute from 1924-1928. He graduated in 1928 with a degree in Agricultural Education.
The collection includes an undated invitation to commencement, the cover to a Virginia Polytechnic Institute Department of Chemistry lab book, and a 1928 record book for "Supervised Home Practice in Agriculture." The invitation is not likely from Gills' graduation, as May 31 did not fall on a Wednesday in 1928. The record book has Gills' name and the year on the cover. There are some pencil notations in the front cover and on the back. The only other page with markings in a note on page 21.
