This letter was written by a sutler with the Ohio 116th in September 1863, near Martinsville, Virginia (now West Virginia). Written to Mr. A. J. Frame, whose son, Adolphus B. Frame, was a lieutenant in the regiment, the letter contains a signature that is an abbreviation and largely illegible, possibly William M M.
The letter is signed by a sutler working with the 116th Ohio, located in September 1863 near Martinsville, Virginia (now West Virginia). The letter discusses business conditions surrounding the 116th Ohio, the Ohio gubernatorial election of 1863 between Clement L.
