As the two letters in this collection are simply signed "Mark," it is unclear who the author is or which Virginia cavalry unit(s) he served in.
The collection consists of two letters written by "Mark," a Confederate cavalryman, to his father. The first is dated June 26, 1861, from Orange County Courthouse in Orange County, Va., and the second is dated August 19, 1861, from Leesburg, Va. Both letters detail camp life, cavalry unit activities, and general war news.
The collection is arranged in chronological order.
