The collection was acquired by Special Collection and University Archives prior to 2015.
The processing, arrangement, and description of the Emily Pillsbury Davis Cadet Uniform was completed in June 2025. Preliminary description was completed in 2015.
This uniform belonged to Emily Pillsbury Davis. Pillsbury was the "L" Squadron commander in the Corps of Cadets in 1975-1976. She graduated in 1977. She was the first women in the "L" Squadron.
The Emily Pillsbury Davis Cadet Uniform collection consists of a blue blouse, blue blazer, blue trousers, a white skirt, and a blue skirt.
The Blouse is light blue with light blue plastic buttons. The blouse is collared and has short sleeves. On each sleeve is a black patch with four white arrows. The edges of the sleeves have a soild black stripe around them. On the inside of the collar is a label that reads "donkenny" and written next to the label in pen is "843948." The blouse is in good condition, some loose threads near buttons.
The blazer is a dark navy blue with a black satin lining. On each sleeve is a black patch with four white arrows. The sleeves have two gold stripes near the cuffs. Above the stripes on the right sleeve is a patch that reads " U.S R.O.T.C." On the right side of the coat are two black plastic buttons and a spot for a third missing button. On the left side are three button holes. On the chest of the jacket there are two pins, on the left the pin says "PILLSBURY" while on the right the pin is is white with yellow and blue stripes, a gold line goes through the stripes. On the right shoulder of the blazer there are braided cords in black, yellow, and white. The jacket has two front pockets near the bottom. On the inside of the coat is a label that reads "Virginia Polytechnic Institute UNIFORM DEPARTMENT BLACKSBURG, VIRGINIA PILLSBURY 38 28 41." A slit goes up the center of the blazer on the back, roughly five inches long. The condition is good, missing a button.
The white skirt has a white plastic button and zipper closure. The fabric is a ribbed texture. A label on the inside reads "Virginia Polytechnic Institute UNIFORM DEPARTMENT BLACKSBURG, VIRGINIA." The skirt is in good condition.
The blue skirt is a dark navy blue with a black plastic button and a zipper closure. The fabric is a ribbed texture. No label present. The skirt is in good condition.
The trousers are a dark navy blue with pleats. On the side of the trousers is a black button and a zipper closure. There is a tag on the inside of the trousers, but any text has faded. The trousers are in good condition, tag inside of trousers is loose.
