Percy Hotspur Lash, II, was born in Richmond, Virginia, in 1907. After graduating from John Marshall High School in 1925, he enrolled in Virginia Tech. During his time as a student, he was a member of Company C of the Corps of Cadets, as well as the Richmond Club and Episcopal Club. He graduated from West Point Military Academy in New York in 1931. He retired at the rank of colonel and died in 1995 in Brevard, Florida.

This collection contains 45 items, mostly letters from Percy Hotspur Lash II while a student at Virginia Polytechnic Institute in the mid-1920s written to Jane Elizabeth Oakes of Gladys, Virginia. Lash's letters discuss his relationship with Oakes and his life as a VPI student. Other items include banquet programs, blank postcards, photographs, and letters to Phyllis Burnette of Lynchburg, Virginia, discussing Burnette's life and friends.
