Lynne Louis Rust (1897-1964) was a United States Navy Sailor from Waverly, Iowa. He was the son of Henry L. and Emily Jemella Rust. He married Bernice M. Thies (1899-1964) on December 6, 1919, in Waverly, and they had a daughter, Betty Jean Rust. Rust worked at a drug store as a merchant, assistant manager, and pharmacist, while Bernice worked as a manager in retail. They lived in Iowa until after World War II, when they moved to Texas. Lynne and Bernice are burried at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas.

This collection contains a World War I era letter from Norfolk, Virginia, dated May 7, 1918. The letter is from Lynne L. Rust to his future wife Bernice Thies of Sioux City, Iowa. Rust was stationed on the USS Montana from Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and discusses his experiences in the war and Navy.
