The scrapbook was a gift of Robin Sledge Shaw, Eustler's great granddaughter. It was received by Special Collections, November 21, 2013.
Edward Miley Eutsler attended Washington & Lee University from 1910-1912. He left Washington and Lee after 1912 to attend the Biltmore School of Forestry near Asheville, North Carolina. He graduated from the Biltmore School in 1914.
Edward M. Eustler's photographic scrapbook documents his experience while a student at Washington and Lee University from 1910-1911. The scrapbook has approximately 350 photographs. Subjects campus and dorm life, athletics, architecture, local landmarks and historic sights, fraternity and club initiations, the Lexington, Virginia downtown area, the Virginia Military Institute, faculty and staff, local residents such as Jefferson Shields and Henry O. Dold, friends, and family. The scrapbook also documents Eustler and others at Camp Ogburn in Summerfield, North Carolina in the summer of 1910 as well as a camping excursion to the summit of North Carolina's Mt. Mitchell in 1911.
