Letter from Thomas J. Woodward, on the Iron Clad "Atlanta", James River, Va, to his sister about fighting along the James River against the Rebels. "...a brief accounty of how I am getting along up here among the Rebels. The "Atlanta" has been the great stand by or in other words the Iron Clad reserve when there is trouble any where...I am now laying close up under the fire of two heavy Rebel Beteris but concealed from them by a lump of trees..." " I can see all the spires in Richmond and the lower front of the city..." February 28, 1865.
