Biographical/Historical Information
John S. Harris (1847-1901) lived in Batesville in Albemarle County, Virginia. He was primarily a farmer, but ran a store selling primarily beef and mutton. He served two terms in the Virginia Legislature from 1887 to 1894.
Scope and Content
This collection contains a small account book from 1869 and a store ledger from 1885. The rest of the collection is receipts from Harris' farming and tobacco activities. An 1889 letter from Charles B. Yager of Free Union, Virginia details county election politics.
