History
Virginius Dabney (February 8, 1901 – December 28, 1995) was an American teacher, journalist, and writer. He edited the Richmond Times-Dispatch from 1936 to 1969 and wrote several historical books throughout his career. In 1948, he won the Pulitzer Prize for editorial writing due, partly, to his opposition to the poll tax. In 1973, he was the guest of honor and speaker at the "1973 Virginia Dinner" of The Newcomen Society in North America where he gave this address dealing with the history of Hampden-Sydney College.
