Biographical Note
Billy G. Shelton graduated from VPI in 1961 with a degree in Building Construction. No other biographical information is available.
A yearbook picture is available on page 315 of the 1961 Bugle (page 319 of the file).
Scope and Content
The collection includes two copies of a photograph from 1962 of Shelton receiving an "Outstanding Trainee" certificate for his basic training company at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. The collection also contains a letter from the Fort Jackson Commanding General, Major General Charles S. D'Orsa, to VPI President Dr. Walter S. Newman about Shelton's award. The letter commends both Shelton's efforts at Fort Jackson, and the high caliber of VPI graduates going on to military service.
