Biographical Note
Samuel Kinzie was born in Botetourt County, Virginia, May 15, 1817. Before moving to Montgomery County in 1876, he lived in Giles County. Kinzie was a farmer in Giles County, and later in Christiansburg, Montgomery County, Virginia. He and his first wife, Mary A. D. Farrier (d. 1867) had 11 children: William C. (1843-1864); Robert N. (b. 1845); Oscar V. (b. 1847); Lewis D. (b. 1849); Rufus M. (b.1852); Charles W. (1854-1869); Amanda A. (b. 1856); Permilia M (b. 1859); Harriet S. (b. 1861); Samuel W. (b. 1864); and Mary A. (b. 1867). In 1869, he married Sarah Walters (b. 1826). They had at least one child: Alice O. (b.1871). Kinzie died in 1898 and is buried in Giles County.
Scope and Content
The collection contains a survey of Samuel Kinzie's properties in Blacksburg and Christiansburg, Virginia, made in 1899 by C. S. Charlton.
