Biographical Note - Edward A. Hancock
Edward Alexander Hancock (1911-1988) was a professor of English at Virginia Polytechnic Institute from 1946-1978. He graduated with an A. B. from Davidson College in 1933 and an M. A. from the University of Virginia in 1948. Hancock was born in West Virginia to Charles B. Hancock and Ora Lee Hunters and is buried alongside his family in Maple Park Cemetery, Bluefield, West Virginia.

Biographical Note - Herbert F. West
Herbert Faulkner West (1898-1974) graduated from Dartmouth College in 1922 and 1924 and taught there until his retirement in 1964. He established Westholm Publications in 1955.

Scope and Content
The collection consists of a letter written to Edward A. Hancock from Herbert Faulkner West at Dartmouth College on August 21, 1964. The letter was a reply to ongoing correspondence and discusses a range of topics, including recent events, Hancock's teaching activities, and a loan.
