Biographical Note
Walter H. Beal is listed in the Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College Catalog of Officers and Students for 1882-1883 and 1884-1885 (no 1883-1884 or 1885-1886 catalogs are available). The 1886-1887 catalog lists Beal among the alumni from 1886 with a degree in Mining Engineering. All three of the catalogs list his home as Hanover, Virginia.
Scope and Content
The collection contains two speeches by Walter H. Beal, Sr., in 1886, a valedictory address to the class of 1886 and a farewell
address to the Lee Literary Society. The valedictory speech is in a folder with the title, "The Golden Ages are before us,"
and was given on Friday, April 30
