An obituary supplies the following information regarding Charles Blanton Anderson, Sr., a resident of Newbern, to whom these items most likely belonged: The son of Joseph Larkin Anderson (a blacksmith) and Susan Rebecca Keffer Anderson, Charles Blanton Anderson Sr. was born in Pulaski County on January 14, 1857. Anderson married Stella Austin, and the couple had four children: Walter Anderson, C. B. Anderson Jr., Mrs. Frank M. Akers, and Stella Anderson. His obituary reports that Anderson was a graduate of Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College's class of 1886, but no other record of his attendance could be found. Anderson died following a short illness from pneumonia on May 16, 1945.
