Biographical Note
Lucy Minogue (later Rowland) was a member of the class of 1969 at Virginia Polytechnic Institute. She was the first news editor and then editor-in-chief of the student newspaper The Virginia Tech in 1968-1969. She earned a B.S. in biology/zoology (1969) and an M.S. in microbiology (1972) at Virginia Tech, and later earned a Masters in Library Science at the University of Maryland.
Scope and Content
This collection contains letters to the editor received by Lucy Minogue Rowland when she was news editor and editor-in-chief of The Virginia Tech in 1968-1969. Topics of the letters to the editor include alcoholic beverages, women at VPI, VPI name change, and removing the Confederate flag from the Coliseum. Also included are letters of a political nature including a signed letter from David Eisenhower on "Youth for Nixon-Agnew," correspondence with Senator William B. Spong, Jr., and letters congratulating Minogue on her appointment as editor-in-chief.
Arrangement
The collection is arranged chronologically. Note that letters to the paper initialed by Lucy Minogue Rowland were published. Those marked "NP" were not published.
