Administrative History
The Tennessee, Alabama & Georgia Railroad was created in 1911 as a reorganization of the failed Chattanooga Southern Railway. Placed in receivership in 1922, the TA&G was purchased and its name changed to the Tennessee, Alabama & Georgia Railway. The 92-mile line spanned from Chattanooga, Tennessee to Gadsden, Alabama and was purchased by the Southern Railway in 1971; a northern portion of the line today (2009) is leased from Norfolk Southern and operated by the Chattooga and Chickamauga Railway.
Scope and Content
This collection contains an annual report on the operations of the Tennessee, Alabama & Georgia Railway, compiled for the Interstate Commerce Commission's Division of Statistics for the year 1926. Submitted by company auditor and assistant treasurer D. E. Hedges, the report tabulates statistics on the company's operations, including workforce, equipment, tonnage hauled, income and expenditures. Also included are the names of officers and a brief background of the company. The collection also contains a few loose documents which had been inserted in the report.
