Historical Note
The Draper-Preston Neighborhood Association began researching their homes' historic status around 1987. The Blacksburg Historic District became listed on the Virginia Landmarks Register in 1989 and on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.
In 1990, at the association's urging, the Town Council of Blacksburg appointed an historic-district task force. The Blacksburg Historic District was approved by the Town Council in 1993 in order to preserve the town's history. Blacksburg's Historic District shows the towns evolution from 1798, when it was founded by William Black, to the twenty-first century.
