Source of Acquisition

The Records of the Asian American Student Union were transferred to Special Collections and University Archives in 2019.

Processing Information

The processing, arrangement, and description of the Records of the Asian American Student Union commenced and completed in November 2022.

Administrative History

The Virginia Tech Asian American Student Union (VTAASU) was founded in the early-1990s, in either 1991 or 1992. The VTAASU acts as an umbrella organization for the Asian/Pacific Islander/Desi American (APIDA) organizations on campus. The organization's mission statement is to "strive to enhance and further the individual, cultural, and ethnic diversities that exist in the APIDA communities" and to "make efforts to address the problems, issues, and concerns of the APIDA communities to the administration and other fellow student organizations".

Scope and Content

This collection contains event posters, DVDs, VHS tapes, a cut-out from the Collegiate Times, and a painted muslin canvas created by the Virginia Tech Asian American Student Union. The majority of this collection is made up of event posters and audiovisual materials created by the VTAASU.

This collection contains one series and a number of items not organized into series.
