Biographical Note
Catlett Conway II, son of Capt. Catlett Conway and Susanna Fitzhugh, was born at Hawfield (Orange County), Virginia on May 27, 1786. On September 29, 1810, Conway married Verlinda Taliaferro (1784-1815) of "Rose Hill," Orange County, Virginia; the couple had four children. Following the death of his first wife, Conway married Harriett Taylor (d. 1852), with whom he had one son. Catlett Conway II died in Greene County on July 25, 1839.
Scope and Content
This collection consists of a ledger maintained by Catlett Conway of Greene County, Virginia, documenting the financial transactions of his estate, "Spring Hill." The ledger tracks sales of tobacco and wheat; purchases of food, hardware, and household goods; and payments for equipment repairs and other services.
