Biographical Note
Captain Charles Rutledge Holmes (1835-1891), enlisted in the Confederate Army in 1861 just after the United States Civl War began. He served under General Kershaw and General Connor and was wounded in action twice during the war.

Scope and Content
This collection contains a General Order from Captain A. P. Mason, written by General Charles R. Holmes in 1864. The order states that all rockets seen or cannons heard should be reported up the chain of command.
