Biographical / Historical
Lewis F. Powell, Jr. was an alumnus of Washington and Lee University, Class of 1929, Law class of 1931, and later a Trustee of the university. He most notably served as a Justice of the United States Supreme Court from 1971-1987.
Scope and Contents
This collection consists of correspondence of Lewis F. Powell, Jr. concerning Washington and Lee University from 1959-1970 and materials regarding his nomination to the United States Supreme Court in 1971.
