Biographical / Historical
Robert Alexander was the founder in 1749 of a school that became known later as Augusta Academy, the original forerunner of Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia.
Scope and Contents
This collection contains a deed, dated August 13, 1747, for a tract of land near the town of Greenville, Augusta County, Virginia, conveyed to Robert Alexander from William Beverley and two legal papers connected with the deed. There is also an authorized English Bible, 1766, with Robert Alexander's signature. Genealogical information by George Diehl is housed in the control folder.

This file consists of documents relating to the legend on the title page of the Robert Alexander Bible. There are typed copies, photocopies, and the original title page. The Bible seems to have belonged to three Robert Alexanders: Robert Alexander, Sen., 1766, Robert Alexander, Jun., 1811, and Robert A. Alexander, 1848.
