Scope and Contents The following excerpts were provided by the seller and has not been verified. "April 5, 1893--Uses his little commode for the first time & seems to understand immediately what it is for. Great success. April 6, 1893--Lies on bed and stares in utter astonishment at his little right fist. May 9, 1893--(4 mo.) "Uncle Will" took his picture in the yard. July 30, 1893--John Cleveland Sloan was baptised by Rev. A. C. Steward in the First Reformed Church in Sch.dy [Schenectady?] N.Y. He was so charming. He gazed at the congregation over his father's shoulder & sucked his thumb. Aug. 12, 1893--He talks a great deal in a low voice with much effort--da-da--da-da--da-di.Sept. 14, 1893--Malted milk agrees with him nicely.Sept. 16, 1893--"Blubbled" when his mother patted her hand over his mouth. Talks all kinds of baby talk. Sept. 27, 1893--John woke in evening with a cold in his head & seemed a little restless all night--all right next day. Sept. 29, 1893--John no better--in fact seemed worse when his father came home in the evening & his father believing he was not being properly cared for. He had no faith in homeopathy. went for Dr. Beulau [sp?] (in whom he had the utmost confidence). Dr. Beulau (being a particular friend and a mason and examiner for insurance co.) was obliging enough to come down & make a thorough examination of John & said he was a finely made, large, well nourished baby & the only thing the matter with him was a cold in his head & his throat was a little inflamed. Dec. 17, 1893--Learned to give his rattle or anything he had in his hand to his father when asked for it. His father also taught him to pick up anything which lay before him. Wants to be danced all the time & stands very nicely (with a little steadying) in a chair holding the back & in his crib. Dec. 18, 1893--John and his mother had picture taken at Mrs. Star's. Dec. 19, 1893--Cut upper right second (outer) incisor.Between 13 & 14 months--takes to creeping all about & climbing up by himself.May 1, 1894--Walked alone a distance of six or seven feet."
