Biographical Information:

Archibald Stuart was born near Staunton, Va. in 1757. Educated at the College of William and Mary and a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Fought at Guilford Court House and in the Yorktown Campaign. Studied law under Thomas Jefferson. Served in Virginia House of Delegates. Aligned with Madison and favored the ratification of the U. S. Constitution. Served in the Virginia Senate and was judge of the Virginia General Court. Scope and Contents

Account books, 1788-1831, kept by Stuart who was a lawyer in Staunton, Va. Accounts concern his law practice, personal finances, and include accounts concerning the building of his house.
