Scope and Contents

One bound volume containing newsclippings, correspondence, photographs, and other material related to a school shoe controversy in Ilford County, England during World War II. The controversy centered around 15-year old Sheila Marion Rayment, whose parents would not spend 7 coupons to purchase indoor shoes for her to wear to school, causing her to be suspended. Included in the scrapbook are letters of support for Rayment, as well as newspaper articles, editorials, and cartoons about the controversy.
