Conditions Governing Access

Collection is open to all researchers. Manuscript collections and archival records may contain materials with sensitive or confidential information that is protected under federal or state right to privacy laws and regulations, such as the Virginia Public Records Act (Code of Virginia. § 42.1-76-91); and the Virginia Freedom of Information Act (Code of Virginia § 2.2-3705.5). Miles Selden attended William & Mary from 1840-1844.

Scope and Contents

The collection consists of two certificates presented to Miles Selden while a student at William & Mary.

The first certificate is dated July 4, 1842 and was presented to Selden for his success in the studies of "Belles Lettres, Logic, Ethics, History, National Law & Chemistry." It is signed by faculty members Thomas Dew, Robert Saunders, Beverley Tucker, and John Millington.

The second certificate is dated July 4, 1843 and was presented to Selden for his success in the studies of Natural Philosphy and Mathematics. It is signed by faculty members Thomas Dew, Robert Saunders, Beverley Tucker, John Millington, and Charles Minnigerode.

Both certificates are affixed with the Temple Seal.
