Biographical / Historical
Thomas Lee Heacox was a professor of the College of William & Mary English Deptartment. Heacox created and taught a course titled "Literature and the Formation of Homosexuality" in the 1970s, becoming an early public proponent of the LGBTQIA+ community. He was born in 1943; in 1965, he earned a Bachelor's Degree from Penn State, and later earned a Master's and PhD from Johns Hopkins University in 1967 and 1975 respectively. Heacox joined the faculty at William & Mary in 1970, with his tenure lasting until 2014, after which he continued as emeritus faculty until his death. He was awarded the Phi Beta Kappa Excellence in Teaching Award in 2000 and the Thomas Graves Award for Sustained Excellence in Teaching in 2009. He died 4 April 2024 in Williamsburg, VA.
Content Description
One bifold program for the funeral service of Thomas Lee Heacox. The front of the program displays Heacox's name and dates of life, a photograph of Heacox, and the venue and date of the funeral. Inside the program is a poem by Heacox and the event programming for the funeral. The back of the program displays an excerpt from Heacox's death announcement.
