Abstract
Glass plate negatives of photographs taken by Uriah C. Shock documenting Helvetia, West Virginia, a small community of German-speaking
Swiss immigrants located in Randolph County. Includes portraits of individuals and groups, apparently of family members and
community groups. Many images feature woodland settings, and some pictures include evidence of logging operations, horse teams,
buildings, and livestock. Plates are of varying dimensions, including 5 in. x 7 in. and 6 1/2 in. x 8 1/2 in. sizes.
