Abstract
Ledger documenting business transactions with Samuel Harrison for services and goods provided at his inn, and for his cooperage.
The ledger, or daybook, contains over 100 pages. There is an extensive name index at the beginning of the volume referencing
page numbers. There are transactions recorded for meals (breakfast, dinner, and supper); beverages (mostly whiskey, but also
bitters, brandy, eggnog [pg. 22], gin, and punch); lodging; and horse care (including hay). The inn also operated a ferriage,
documented on pages 2, 20, 27, and 69. Scattered in the volume are transactions for Harrison's cooperage, including orders
for flour and water barrels. The location of the inn is unknown, except that it is thought to be in Virginia.
