Scope and Contents
Papers created and collected by Vause Marshall, relating to the career of Frank Holme. Holme (1868-1904) was born in Preston County, West Virginia, and became an illustrator for the Wheeling REGISTER, Pittsburgh PRESS, Chicago TIMES, and San Francisco CHRONICLE during the 1880s and 1890s; founder of the Palette and Chisel Club, the School of Illustration in Chicago, and the Bandar Log Press. Collection includes correspondence, newspaper clippings, original etchings, a wash painting, photographs, and printed materials. Subjects include the Frank Holme Memorial Group; the life of Holme and his wife, Ida Van Dyke; and an exhibition of drawings at the Chicago Art Institute in 1897. Correspondents include Vause Marshall and George Ade, among others.
