Biographical Information
A native of Winston-Salem, N.C., Dr. Douglas Covington was President of Radford University from 1995 to 2005. He was a graduate of Central State University and held both Master's and Ph.D. degrees from Ohio State University. Before coming to Radford he was president of Cheyney University in Pennsylvania, the nation's first historically Black educational institution. Covington also served as chancellor at Winston-Salem State University and president of Alabama A and M University. At RU, Covington was awarded tenure jointly in the departments of psychology and special education and the faculty rank of Professor of Psychology and Education. He retired from office in June of 2005.
Scope and Content
Contains official papers of President Douglas Covington during his administration of Radford University. Boxes 1-5 contain materials concerning the Presidency at Radford University including speeches, reports, and other related papers. Box 6 contains the Inauguration Greetings as the 5th President of Radford University. Boxes 7-19 contain materials primarily from before his inauguration at Radford, including Degrees, Letters, Reports, Scrapbooks, Newspaper Clippings, Speeches and Correspondence. Although these boxes also have some material the Covington took with him when he left Radford so some of the material is from 1995-2005.
