Biographical Information
Heidi Hartwiger is a storyteller, teacher, and editor. A member of the "Selu Sisters" of writers associated with Radford University. The Selu Sisters are associated with the farm at Selu in which those in the Appalachian Studies Program interpret farm and home life of a 1930's homestead. Born in Ohio and raised in West Virginia, she writes books and articles about Appalachia and natural topics.
Scope and Content
The Heidi Hartwiger Collection holds works by that author. Included are books such as The Secrets of Indian Knob, All Join Hands and A Gift of Herbs. As well as the magazine Ohio Valley Parent with issues ranging from 2001-2010. Other magazines contained in this collection are Baby Guide and Summer Survival Guide. The journal present in this collection is Alcalines in which Hartwiger contributed an article called The Backyard Flying School. Thank you notes, a Selu Sisters Photobook, and correspondence between Hartwiger and Five Corners Publications are also present. Lastly, are copies of the Beacon, a creative arts magazine from the Center for Community Learning at Christopher Newport University, which span the years 1998-2001.
