Historical Information

"Out of the Attic" is a feature in the Loudoun Times-Mirror , published in Leesburg, Virginia. The feature often includes a photograph of historical interest with a short description. Many of the images come from the photographic archives of the newspaper, though some come from community members and are used with their permission. Popular subjects include people, local businesses, schools, and events. In addition to photographs, "Out of the Attic" occasionally includes reproductions of documents, such as bills of sale from stores, railway tickets, and maps. The feature appears regularly in the weekly newspaper, though it is not included every week.

Jane Teel Norman (1 November 1919-11 July 2011) was a longtime resident of Loudoun County. She enjoyed genealogy and was a member of several heritage organizations, including Daughters of the American Revolution and Colonial Dames of the XVII Century. Norman was also interested in historical and environmental preservation, and served as chair of both the Loudoun County Soil and Water Conservation District and the Goose Creek Scenic River Advisory Board.
