Biographical/Historical Information
William Henry Green was born in Lancaster County, South Carolina on October 5, 1852. His parents were Francis D. Green and Susan Brown. Green entered the Virginia Military Institute in 1870 and resigned in 1873 before receiving a degree. He returned to Lancaster County, where he was a farmer. He married Frederica Rebecca Jones on July 22, 1874; the couple had seven children (William, Walter, Daniel, F. E., Susan, Nettie, and Mary). Green died of typhoid fever at his home in Lancaster County on November 25, 1891.

The William H. Green account book contains a listing of school expenses incurred while Green was a cadet at the Virginia Military Institute, 1870-1873.
