Biographical/Historical Information
Murray Forbes Taylor, son of John R. Taylor and Bessie Forbes, was born near Fredericksburg, Virginia on December 24, 1843. He entered the Virginia Military Institute in the Fall of 1860, but his education was interrupted by the beginning of the Civil War. Taylor served as a cadet drillmaster for Confederate recruits, and later joined the 13th Virginia Infantry Regiment. He was an aide-de-camp to General A. P. Hill and Gen. James Longstreet. Following the war he was a rancher in California. He married his cousin, Butler Brayne Thornton, and the couple had three daughters. Taylor died near Fredericksburg, Virginia on November 20, 1909.
