Biographical/Historical Information
George Smith Patton (1856-1927) was the father of George S. Patton, Jr. of World War II fame. He was the son of Colonel George Smith Patton, a Confederate officer killed in battle at Winchester (VA) in 1864, and Susan Thornton Glassell. George S. Patton entered the Virginia Military Institute in 1873 and graduated in 1877. He married Miss Ruth Wilson on December 10, 1884, at Los Angeles, California. Patton was an attorney, politician, and civic leader in the Los Angeles area. He died June 10, 1927.

The George S. Patton account book contains a listing of school expenses incurred while Patton was a cadet at the Virginia Military Institute, 1873-1877.
