Biographical Information
The son of James S. Tipton and Catherine Sutherland Tipton, Walter S. Tipton was born in Carroll County, Virginia, in 1856. In 1892 he married Pattie Howard, daughter of Joseph L. Howard and Ann Amanda Smith of Floyd County, Virginia. Tipton practiced law in Hillsville, Virginia and died in 1950. He is buried in Hillsville North End Cemetery.
Scope and Content
The collection consists of three letters addressed to Walter S. Tipton, an attorney of Carroll County, Virginia. A 10 January 1895 letter from C. S. Lucas, Superintendent of the Pulaski Iron Company, informs Tipton about the status of a debt and receipt of funds "in a few days." Two letters dated respectively, 23 January 1896 and 5 March 1896, from James A. Dyer, Foster Falls Mining and Manufacturing Company, discuss financial matters and the Shenandoah Furnace Company.
Arrangement
Three letters arranged chronologically in one folder.
